These cars cost less than most people assume, especially over a week or more.
One question comes up almost daily, how large a deposit will be blocked on the card? On a good part of our fleet the answer is none at all, and on the rest it is deliberately modest. Nobody should have to freeze a month’s spending money to drive a sedan for five days. Documents, rules and the small print worth reading
The list of requirements is pleasantly brief. Visitors will need a passport, a national driver’s license, and an International Driving Permit. Residents require a local driver’s license as well as an Emirates ID or a residence visa. The minimum driver age is 21. If you send us copies of the documents in advance, the vehicle handover process will be limited to signing the paperwork and a visual inspection of the car.
Local traffic law is strict and enforced by camera, so a few minutes of reading protects your budget. City limits sit between 60 and 80 km/h, highways go up to 120, and radar does the rest. Any fine issued during your rental reaches us and we pass it on transparently – no mystery charges appearing on your card weeks later. Alcohol tolerance behind the wheel is zero, with penalties, that start in the tens of thousands of dirhams, if the evening involves a celebration, arrange a driver first. Paid parking zones are marked with coloured lines and paid through the RTA app, the ticket for getting it wrong costs more, than the parking ever would. Fuel policy on our side is simple, return the car at the level you received it. Keep the interior clean and don’t smoke inside, and the closing inspection is a formality.
For airport returns, arrive 30 to 40 minutes before your flight. That leaves time for the walk-around and the transfer to the terminal without anyone checking their watch.
The culmination of all these plans will be the roads leading out of the city. Abu Dhabi is less than two hours away, and at the end of it all, the Grand Mosque and the Corniche await. Al Ain offers greenery, hot springs, and a veritable zoo. Fujairah is famous for its diving and quiet beaches on the east coast. Hatta offers mountain serpentines, a reservoir with kayaking, and hiking trails that are completely unlike the horizon you left behind. None of these trips fit into a schedule that would be convenient for anyone else, and half the fun lies in the unplanned stops along the way – a roadside cafe, a viewpoint, a market that wasn’t on anyone’s list.
